Online Classes Starting Next Week

Online Classes

Hola a todos!  Hello everyone!

We at La Academia want to give you an update on where we are as a company and school. As everyone has seen, both Tarrant and Dallas Counties have implemented stay at home orders.  These are unprecedented times, and we as a community must do what is needed to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Due to these restrictions, we will not open our locations in Hurst or Keller until the orders are lifted.  At that time, we will assess the situation and inform our students.

Our teachers are preparing themselves to bring you classes via Zoom online.  Although it’s an online forum, it will be an interactive, virtual learning experience where the teacher and students can see and speak to one another – as if they were in the same room.

We will get started this coming week and your class schedule will remain at the same time. We hope everyone can join the classes!  If you have any questions, please send an email to our office.

Please continue to listen to the radio, watch television or movies in Spanish, and join the online classes so you can continue your education.

Thank you so much for hanging in there and for giving us the opportunity to teach you a wonderful language!

We hope to get back to normal soon.

Gracias!

Practice Speaking Your New Language

Practice Speaking Spanish

At La Academia, we place an emphasis on our students speaking Spanish. It’s one of the most important aspects of learning a new language, and it’s also one of the most difficult things to do.

Adult students are very self-conscious about making an error. They may feel their accent or inflection is incorrect. Native Spanish speakers also speak very fast, so it may feel overwhelming. Remembering vocabulary, the order of words in a complete sentence, or even colloquial phrases can leave a student completely frozen. And all of these are perfectly understandable.

This is why I encourage students to practice their Spanish while dining at a Mexican restaurant. The wait staff is typically bilingual, so even if you get stuck, they can usually prompt you in English. If they are speaking Spanish and it went by in a blur, you can say, “más dispacio, por favor” or “slower, please.”

Listening and responding to a new language is key. The more you practice, the easier it gets. And let’s face it, practicing your Spanish while having chips and salsa, enchiladas and perhaps a margarita is a reward in itself!

Meet La Academia Teacher Ana Medrano

Ana Medrano

Ana began working at La Academia five years ago, and has been staple in our classrooms since that time.

She can teach any level and has a gift for connecting with our students – no matter their age. You can find her in one of our classrooms, giving private lessons, or teaching police recruits and first responders basic Spanish. She is not only a teacher; she’s our curriculum coordinator.

One of her favorite lessons is this: it’s never too early or too late to learn a language. It may be difficult, but it is not impossible if you apply yourself and work hard.

Ana is originally from El Salvador, is married and has an eight-year old son. We’re so fortunate to have her on our team, and we appreciate her smile, teaching skills, patience and dedication.

Congratulations to Keller Beginner 1 Graduates

Spanish Class

Congratulations to Beatriz’s Beginner I Spanish class for completing their capsule!

This class meets at our Keller location on Thursdays at 7pm. The beginner Spanish capsule includes topics such as the alphabet, numbers, greetings and farewells, colors, days of the week, months of the year, seasons, animals, clothing, family members, food, and feelings.

Edward, Edee, Melanie, Mose, and Van all passed their test, and started the Beginner II Spanish capsule earlier this month. Job well done and keep going! Felicidades!
